(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 11/30/23) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called on state religious, community and political leaders to repudiate anti-Palestinian, Islamophobic comments made by Senator Ron Latz during a press conference on Wednesday.
Senator Latz’s statement, claiming that “Palestinian youth” dream of “killing as many Jews as possible,” is not only anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic but also recklessly endangers Muslim youth and perpetuates harmful stereotypes about the American Muslim community.
CAIR-Minnesota is calling on the Democratic establishment, including the Majority Leader, Governor, and other Democratic officials, to formally denounce these Islamophobic statements.
Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director of CAIR-Minnesota, said:
“Senator Ron Latz’s comments are unacceptable and contribute to the ongoing vilification of Muslim communities, particularly Palestinian and Muslim youth. In a time when unity and understanding are crucial, such statements only serve to divide and perpetuate unfounded fears and prejudices.
“The failure to address such bigoted comments allows harmful narratives to spread and undermines the values of inclusivity and respect for all communities.”
CAIR-Minnesota urged all elected officials and community leaders to stand against Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry.
The organization is committed to working for justice and mutual understanding and expects a swift response from Democratic leadership in condemning these harmful and false assertions.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
