CAIR-Minnesota Condemns Break-In at Masjid Uthman in North Minneapolis Amid Ongoing Pattern of Attacks Targeting Mosques

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today condemned a break-in at Masjid Uthman in North Minneapolis. The incident occurred on Sunday night, November 23, 2025, at approximately 10:32 PM, when suspects forced entry through a locked back door.

Video surveillance footage shows two masked individuals entering the mosque while a third waited in a vehicle circling outside. Although no interior damage occurred, the break-in has left the community shaken.

This incident comes amid escalating online threats targeting the broader Muslim and Somali immigrant community, intensified after our coordinated social media campaign prompted the President to announce the termination of the Somali TPS program.

The incident has intensified concerns within a community already facing an unprecedented wave of threats, vandalism, and arson attempts targeting Islamic centers across Minnesota.

Over the past three years, Minnesota has faced the worst level of mosque attacks in the nation, with more than 40 incidents and over $3 million in damages. Arson has been on the rise, with six separate incidents in recent years, including three serious arsons.

Also last month, CAIR-MN repeated its call for an investigation of a possible bias motive for a second arson attempt at Al Hikma Mosque in Minneapolis.

CAIR-MN is urging mosques and all places of worship to increase security protocols, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity immediately. This advisory comes in response to the rise in threats online following the recent TPS designation announcement and the surge in hostile messaging targeting Muslim and Somali communities.

CAIR-MN Deputy Executive Director Suleiman Adan stated:

“Masjid Uthman is a vital part of North Minneapolis. Any break-in or attack against a sacred space reverberates throughout the community. Our communities have endured repeated acts of intimidation and violence. We are working closely with mosque leadership and law enforcement to ensure accountability and to support the congregation during this difficult moment.”

CAIR-MN is the state’s leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. Its mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
