(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 10/11/2022) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today welcomed a charge of felony assault motivated by bias for an incident in Waite, Park, Minn., which included an alleged attack on a Somali man.
Waite Park police say they were called to an apartment building after several people called 911 to say a woman was going into apartments and threatening to kill people with a knife. They say the suspect was chasing a Somali man when apprehended. Witnesses said she made racist comments during the incident. She is being held at the Stearns County Jail awaiting formal charges.
The alleged assailant faces multiple charges, including felony assault motivated by bias.

In a statement, CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said:
“We welcome the swift actions of police and hope the charge of felony assault motivated by bias resulting from this disturbing incident sends a strong message that alleged acts of racist violence will not be tolerated and will result in an appropriate response by law enforcement authorities.”
He noted that CAIR-Mn has responded to a number of recent incidents targeting the Muslim community in Minnesota.
