CAIR-MN Welcomes Resolution Allowing Public Broadcast of Islamic Call to Prayer 5 Times Daily in Minneapolis

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 4/13/2023) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today welcomed passage of a resolution by the Minneapolis City Council allowing the adhan, or Islamic call to prayer, to be publicly broadcast from mosques five times a day.

Following a unanimous vote on Thursday, Minneapolis became the first major city in America to allow the Islamic call to prayer to be broadcast from mosques publicly for each of the five daily prayers. Previously, the city’s noise rules prevented some morning and evening calls at certain times of the year because they occurred at night. The mayor is expected to sign the new resolution on Monday.
