The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today condemned racist anti-Palestinian flyers distributed on the campus of Princeton University reading “Nuke Gaza” and “Kill Roaches.” CAIR-NJ also welcomed the University’s investigation and called for disciplinary action against those found responsible for the flyers.
The Department of Public Safety (PSAFE) is reportedly investigating the distribution of the flyers as a bias incident.
“Anti-Palestinian racism is a direct reaction to the growing movement nationwide, and particularly on college campuses, rejecting the far-right Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza,” said CAIR-NJ Executive Director Selaedin Maksut. “Those who back this genocide and reject Palestinian humanity are a shrinking minority that is desperate to silence anti-genocide voices.”
He added: “Seeing these flyers on a college campus is extremely troubling. We expect the University to take swift action against those found responsible. The Muslim and Arab students must feel reassured that their safety is a top priority for the university.”
He noted that last month, CAIR-NJ announced that complaints of discrimination, anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate saw a significant surge during the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2023.
From January to June 2024, CAIR-NJ documented a total of 186 complaints, a 118% increase over the same period in 2023. Many of those complaints consisted of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian bias and discrimination at school settings and the workplace.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
