The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned an alleged anti-Asian assault in Brooklyn at the beginning of the month.
Police say at around 5 a.m. on August 2, an unknown man punched a pedestrian in the head and arm after making anti-Asian remarks. Police are looking for the suspect.

“Racist assaults are unacceptable and must be taken seriously by law enforcement authorities,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “We condemn this disturbing assault and stand in solidarity with the Asian-American community and all those targeted by racist violence.”
She said Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
