CAIR-NY Welcomes Conviction of Perpetrator in Anti-Muslim Slashing

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed the conviction of a man who assaulted a Muslim man on New Year’s Eve. 

A New Jersey man was found guilty of hate crime assault and weapons for slashing a Muslim man in Manhattan on New Year’s Eve after having gone on an anti-Muslim tirade. The man is expected to be sentenced on May 3.

“No one should have their life put in danger simply because of their faith,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “We welcome the conviction of the perpetrator of this disturbing crime and urge law enforcement to crack down on the rising tide of anti-Muslim incidents.”

She noted that this week, CAIR released its 2024 civil rights report, which reveals the highest number of complaints it has ever received in its 30-year history.
