CAIR-NY Welcomes Hate Crime Probe into Vandalism of Brooklyn Mosque

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today welcomed an investigation by the NYPD into a possible bias motive in the vandalism of a mosque in Brooklyn. 

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating after a man allegedly smashed a sign in front of a Brooklyn mosque last week. At approximately 1:28 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, the man reportedly threw an unknown object through a sign in front of a mosque, causing damage.

“Nationwide, hate crimes targeting Muslim communities are on the rise and every possible incident must be taken seriously,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher. “We thank the NYPD for launching a hate crime investigation into this vandalism.”
