On Thursday, April 10, the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio), along with civil rights partner organizations, will host a press conference to demand urgent action from the Columbus Police Department following a violent hate crime targeting a local immigrant family.
The press conference comes in the wake of a brutal attack against a Somali family in Columbus. Despite the violence of the assault and its clear racial motivation, no arrests have been made. Advocates are calling for accountability and swift justice to ensure the safety of all marginalized communities in Ohio.
Speakers will include representatives from immigrant justice organizations, Muslim civil rights leaders, and community advocates.
Last month, CAIR-Ohio called on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the alleged assault on a Muslim woman as a possible hate crime.
