The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) today welcomed federal charges filed against Wyatt Brzoska, a 20-year-old Valley City man accused of posting online threats and planning a violent attack against a mosque in Columbia Station, Ohio.
Brzoska, who was arrested in March 2026 after investigators discovered ten firearms, approximately 700 rounds of ammunition, tactical gear, and weapons inscribed with Nazi imagery inside his home, waived grand jury indictment and was charged in federal court with three counts of threatening communications.
“What could have happened could have been a catastrophic, horrific slaughter of men, women and children, of innocent worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan,” said CAIR-Ohio, North Executive Director Faten Odeh. “While we are relieved that federal law enforcement intervened before tragic loss of life occurred, our community continues to process the fear and trauma caused by these explicit threats.”
“We will be watching this case closely,” Odeh added. “We hope the justice system delivers accountability that reflects the severity of these actions and ensures the safety of our worshippers and community facilities. We encourage the Department of Justice to continue investigating and consider additional charges, such as conspiracy to commit murder. “
CAIR-Ohio encourages any victims of hate crimes or harassment to report incidents to local law enforcement and contact CAIR-Ohio for legal and community support.
Washington, D.C.-based CAIR recently said it has documented 17 incidents targeting Islamic places of worship in May, June, and July to date. The 17 incidents represent 51 percent of the previous year’s total and a 183 percent increase over the same three-month period last year, during which CAIR documented six such incidents.
CAIR’s latest civil rights report documented 8,683 anti-Muslim bias complaints in 2025 – the highest number ever recorded by the organization since it began publishing civil rights reports in 1996.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
