The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest American Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the Senate’s “shameful” early morning vote to approve $14 billion in unconditional military aid for the far-right Netanyahu government’s ongoing genocide in Gaza that has killed almost 30,000 Palestinians – mostly women and children. This comes despite ongoing human rights violations and war crimes being committed with U.S.-provided munitions.
CAIR is now urging all Americans to take action through its click-and-send action alert messaging portal to contact their U.S. Senators and express their profound disappointment regarding the Senate’s approval of unconditional military aid to Israel as it commits genocide in Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert S. McCaw said:
“Shame on the Senate for prioritizing funding for Netanyahu’s far-right genocidal government while turning a blind eye to the war crimes it is committing against the Palestinian people in Gaza. This vote is morally reprehensible and goes against the American principles of justice and humanity.
“It is deeply troubling that some Senate offices claimed opposition to funding the Netanyahu government’s genocide but ultimately voted in favor of the bill under the guise of providing military aid to Ukraine. This shocking vote effectively traded brown Palestinian lives for white Ukrainian lives—an act that should be unequivocally condemned.
“It is extremely upsetting to the American Muslim and Arab communities that Senate Democratic Leader Schumer did not allow for consideration of any amendments offered by Senator Sanders or others that would have barred Israel from receiving any offensive weaponry, only providing for defensive weaponry like the Iron Dome missile system or reporting requirements on Israel’s war crimes. This complicit act demonstrates a failure of leadership and a disregard for the lives of Palestinians.
“Additionally, this genocide aid bill shamefully prohibits U.S funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians.
“We commend Senators Bernie Sanders, Jeff Merkley, and Peter Francis Welch for voting with their conscience and standing against the tide of complicity in the face of genocide.”
For the past several weeks, CAIR has been urging all Americans to reach out to their representatives in the House and Senate, advocating against any additional funding for Israel’s continuing war crimes and genocide perpetrated against Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
