CAIR Says Trump’s Ramadan Iftar ‘Rings Hollow’ Without End to Gaza Genocide

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said President Trump’s hosting of a Ramadan iftar, or fast-breaking meal, “rings hollow” without an end to U.S. support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“During the Biden administration, the White House hosted iftar dinners and engaged in other performative acts of solidarity that did not respond to our community’s demand that President Biden stop funding the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.

“Although hosting an iftar at the White House is a positive tradition for President Trump to maintain, American Muslims are not looking for symbolic gestures. We need policies that respect free speech and religious freedom here at home while advancing true peace and justice abroad, starting in Gaza.

“If President Trump truly values the American Muslim community, he should listen to American Muslims, who universally want him to force an end to the Israeli government’s campaign of slaughter, destruction, ethnic cleansing, and starvation in Gaza.”

Yesterday, CAIR called Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s “kafir” (Arabic for a person who knowingly conceals or denies fundamental, divine truths) tattoo “a sign of both anti-Muslim hostility and personal insecurity.”

Washington, D.C., based CAIR also called on President Trump to protect civilian life when approving any military operations after national security officials “casually celebrated” the killing of Yemeni civilians, including a woman, in Signal chat messages released by reporter Jeffery Goldberg.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
