CAIR Says ‘World Must Not Become Numb to Israeli War Crimes’ After Latest Massacre at Gaza UN School

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said “the world must not become numb to Israeli war crimes” after a new massacre at a U.N. school in Gaza.

At least 14 people, including two children, were killed by an Israeli strike on Al-Jaouni School in Al-Nuseirat camp sheltering displaced Palestinian families. At least one woman and two children were among the dead. Among the reported victims was Dr. Yasser Abu Sharar, a social studies teacher at the school. At least 34 people, including 19 women and children, were killed in the school attack and attacks on homes overnight and today.

A number of schools-turned-shelters have been targeted by Israel since August.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:

“Each day brings new atrocities by the forces of the far-right Israeli government in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The world must not become numb to these daily Israeli war crimes. Concrete steps must be taken to retore faith in international institutions and international law, both of which have failed to protect the Palestinian people from genocide, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing.”

Hooper added that yesterday, CAIR called President Biden and Vice President Harris’ failure to call the family of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a U.S. citizen killed by Israeli forces in Gaza “disturbing and disappointing.”

He noted that last week, CAIR called on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute the Israeli officials, soldiers and illegal settlers responsible for committing violent crimes against Palestinian-Americans, including the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and Turkish-American peace activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi.

CAIR also called on the Biden administration to address a UN report asserting that Israel is conducting a “starvation campaign” in Gaza.
