CAIR Sends Ramadan, Eid Cards to 51 State-Level Education Departments Encouraging Religious Literacy

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced that it has sent Ramadan and Eid Mubarak greeting cards to the state-level Departments of Education in all 50 states and the District of Columbia encouraging their offices to recognize, respect and accommodate the diversity of religious holidays followed by their students, including American Muslim students.

Each card highlights the significance of Ramadan and Eid for millions of Muslim students and families across the nation and encourages state and federal education leaders to promote understanding and religious literary within schools.

The cards were sent as part of CAIR’s Unhostile Campus Campaign, an initiative designed to foster respectful campus environments where all students, including Muslim students, are welcomed and able to practice their faiths.

In a statement, CAIR Research and Advocacy Director Corey Saylor said:

“Ramadan is a sacred time for millions of American Muslim students and families, and it is important for educational institutions understand and accommodate the experiences of students observing this holy month, as well as students of other faiths during their religious holidays. Through our Unhostile Campus Campaign, we also hope to inspire school leaders to create campus environments where students of all faith backgrounds can fully practice their faith and fully participate in school life.”

As part of CAIR’s Unhostile Campus Campaign, CAIR provides free resources, training, and guidance to educators, administrators, and families to support religious accommodations and inclusive policies in schools and on campuses.

CAIR is also encouraging Muslim students, parents, and community members to take an active role in promoting religious inclusion by using CAIR’s Ramadan Toolkit. The toolkit includes educational materials, sample accommodations language, and a resolution template that can be used to invite their state’s department of education leadership to officially welcome Ramadan and Eid.

CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
