The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today joined the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), Arab Resource & Organizing Center Action (AROC Action), and the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) in calling for an immediate halt to U.S. military cargo shipments to Israel through Oakland International Airport (OAK) and urging city officials to adopt an Oakland Arms Embargo on Israel.
A recent report indicates that since January 2025 at least 280 shipments of military cargo—including bomb-release units and surveillance systems for F-35 fighter jets—have departed OAK for Israel. These shipments, occurring multiple times per week, are reportedly routed to the Nevatim airbase, where Israel’s F-35 fleet is maintained and deployed to bomb the people of Gaza.

In a joint statement, the coalition said:
“The time is now. The people demand: no military cargo to Israel through Oakland International Airport. At the same airport where our families travel, instruments of genocide are being shipped in secret. Oakland cannot allow its airport to be used as a hub for war-making.”
While Oakland was among the first U.S. cities to pass a ceasefire resolution in 2023, the coalition noted the stark contradiction between that stance and the airport’s reported role as a central pipeline for arming Israel without the knowledge of its residents.
CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo added:
“Public officials must stop permitting the use of our publicly funded infrastructure to facilitate war crimes. Oakland cannot be a complicit pipeline for genocide. We are proud to stand with our partners and demand an immediate end to these deadly shipments.”
The coalition announced a broad-based campaign to end Oakland’s complicity and urged elected officials, labor unions, faith leaders, and community members to support an Oakland Arms Embargo on Israel and to demand full transparency and oversight of cargo operations at OAK.
CAIR-SFBA is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
