BACKGROUND:

As of Dec. 14, Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of Gaza has killed over 18,000 people and injured more than 50,000. Over half of Gaza’s residential units have been destroyed, and 26 out of 35 hospitals—nearly 75 percent—are not currently functioning. Each day that a ceasefire is delayed, hundreds more will die.

Protest organizer and Palestinian-American Kamilah Albahri stated:

“The constituents of California’s 15th Congressional District will gather to urge Congressman Kevin Mullin to support resolution H. 786, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, where over 18,000 lives have been tragically lost.”

CAIR-SFBA Managing Attorney and District 15 resident Brittney Rezaei added:

“Day after day horrified American citizens of different faiths and ethnicities implore their local, state, and federal representatives to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. Tuesday’s UN General Assembly vote shows that the U.S. stands nearly alone in its unwavering support for the apartheid state.

“The death toll of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza has risen to over 18,000, with UNICEF declaring that Gaza ‘is the most dangerous place in the world for children.’

In light of this, we earnestly appeal to Rep. Mullin to heed the voices of his constituents and take decisive action. We call on him to endorse H. 786 to demand a permanent ceasefire now, reflecting the urgent and compassionate pleas of those he represents.”

CAIR-SFBA is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
