The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today commended and expressed support for the Vermont–New Hampshire chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace’s (JVP) decision to file ethics complaints against five Vermont legislators with the Vermont Ethics Commission.
The complaints allege that the legislators accepted prohibited gifts from the State of Israel to attend a “50 States, One Israel” propaganda tour intended to generate political support for the Israeli government’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. According to the complaints, such gifts may violate Vermont ethics laws governing the acceptance of foreign-sponsored travel.
The ethics complaints, as filed with the Vermont Ethics Commission, are available at: tinyurl.com/JVP–complaints.
In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:
“We applaud Jewish Voice for Peace Vermont–New Hampshire for taking principled action to uphold ethical standards in public office. Elected officials should not accept gifts or foreign-sponsored travel that entangles them in propaganda efforts, especially when those efforts seek to justify genocide. Accountability and transparency are essential to democracy, and no foreign government should be permitted to buy political influence at the expense of human rights.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
