CAIR-Texas and CAIR Action Texas Commend Congressman Christian Menefee for Co-Sponsoring Historic “Block the Bombs Act”

The Texas chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas) and CAIR Action Texas today jointly applauded U.S. Representative Christian Menefee (D-TX-18) for officially signing onto H.R. 3565, the Block the Bombs Act.

The crucial legislation, introduced by Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL), seeks to assert vital Congressional oversight by withholding the transfer and sale of specific U.S. offensive weapons, including bombs, artillery shells, and tank rounds, to the Israeli government, ensuring U.S. taxpayer dollars are not used to facilitate gross violations of international humanitarian law.

In a joint statement, CAIR-Texas and CAIR Action Texas said:

We welcome and deeply appreciate Congressman Menefee’s leadership in co-sponsoring the Block the Bombs Act. Representing Texas’ 18th Congressional District requires a firm commitment to human rights, institutional accountability, and civil liberties both at home and abroad. By taking this principled stand, Congressman Menefee is listening to the vast majority of Texans who demand an end to our nation’s complicity in the genocide, including the catastrophic violence, starvation, and mass displacement of the Palestinian people. We call on the rest of the Texas congressional delegation to follow his lead, champion structural transparency in our foreign policy, and ensure our resources support peace and dignity rather than fueling genocide.”

Congressman Menefee represents Texas’ 18th Congressional District following recent special and primary runoff elections. His co-sponsorship of H.R. 3565 marks a significant milestone for Texas leadership on opposition to the genocide of Palestinians while challenging the country and state’s unconditional support of Israel.

Under the Arms Export Control Act and the Foreign Assistance Act, the United States is legally required to ensure its weapons are not used in human rights abuses. CAIR-Texas and CAIR Action Texas urgently demand that every member of the Texas congressional delegation, across all political affiliations, demonstrate moral leadership by co-sponsoring this vital legislation.

CAIR-Texas and CAIR Action Texas continue to urge community members, advocacy partners, and grassroots organizers statewide to utilize CAIR’s click-and-send action alerts to contact their respective representatives and demand absolute accountability and an immediate end to the weapons transfers making this genocide against Palestinains possible.
