CAIR to Host ‘Welcome Ramadan’ Event Presenting Md. Governor’s Proclamation Marking Beginning of Holy Month

On Saturday, March 1, the Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, plans to host a “Welcome Ramadan” event to mark the beginning of the holy month for Muslim communities with the presentation of a Governor’s Proclamation to commemorate the occasion.

The holy month of Ramadan marks the revelation of the Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text. It is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar during which observant Muslims fast from break of dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, smoking or intimate relations.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
