CAIR Urges Congress and All Government Bodies to Issue Eid Welcoming Statements, Resolutions

Muslim civil rights organization provides toolkit for Muslim community members and elected officials

Today, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, announced it has sent a message urging all U.S. House and Senate congressional offices to welcome Eid ul-Fitr, the celebration marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fast, and to issue statements and resolutions recognizing this important holiday for the American Muslim community.

This year, Eid ul-Fitr 2025 is expected to begin on or about Sunday, March 30, or Monday, March 31.

[NOTE: Because the start of Islamic lunar months depends on the actual sighting of the new moon, the dates for Eid ul-Fitr may vary. CAIR advises elected officials to consult local Muslim communities for precise dates. For more details, visit: Islamic Events 2025 – Muslim Holidays 2025 & Festivals.]

Every year, Congressman André Carson and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell introduce resolutions extending best wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid holidays on behalf of Congress.

CAIR also calls on government bodies at every level—including local city councils, school boards, mayoral and county executive offices, state legislatures, and governors’ offices—to issue welcoming statements, proclamations, and resolutions commemorating the Eid holiday.

In a statement, CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert S. McCaw said:

“Eid ul-Fitr is a time for celebrating community bonds, charity, and spiritual renewal. We encourage elected officials and governmental bodies nationwide to issue statements and resolutions acknowledging Eid ul-Fitr, reinforcing our shared values of religious freedom, mutual respect, and inclusivity. By marking this significant holiday, leaders can help foster understanding and strengthen the diversity and unity of our nation.”

As part of its ongoing efforts, CAIR released its updated 2025 Ramadan Toolkit, a comprehensive resource for Muslim community members and elected officials seeking practical guidance on religious accommodations and public acknowledgment of Islamic observances. The toolkit includes:

  • Template letters and resolutions to help commemorate Ramadan and Eid
  • Guidance for working with local institutions—including schools and workplaces—to secure necessary religious accommodations
  • Information on the significance of Ramadan and Eid for Muslim Americans

CAIR invites individuals, organizations, and community leaders to explore the toolkit, utilize its resources, and contribute to creating spaces that honor and respect religious traditions. By working together, we can ensure Eid ul-Fitr is a time of unity, understanding, and joyous celebration for all.
