On Friday, Jan. 26, the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) Senior Litigation Attorney Justin Sadowsky is scheduled to deliver oral arguments in the Northern District of Florida as part of a lawsuit filed on behalf of the University of South Florida Students for Justice in Palestine, which Governor Ron DeSantis unconstitutionally ordered disbanded in the wake of the Israeli government’s invasion of Gaza.
[MEDIA ADVISORY: The argument is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 at Joseph Woodrow Hatchett United States Courthouse and Federal Building, Courtroom 5 West, 111 North Adams St., Tallahassee, FL, 32301, before Chief Judge Mark E. Walker. CONTACT: CAIR Senior Litigation Attorney Justin Sadowsky, 646-785-9154, jsadowsky@cair.com; CAIR Deputy Litigation Director Gadeir Abbas, 720-251-0425, gabbas@cair.com]
On Oct. 24, Chancellor of the State University System Board of Governors Ray Rodrigues, acting at the behest of Governor Ron DeSantis, ordered all Student for Justice in Palestine organizations disbanded. CAIR subsequently filed suit on behalf of the University of South Florida chapter. (The ACLU, representing the University of Florida chapter, will also argue at the hearing.)
“The governor of Florida has not only attempted to kick Students for Justice in Palestine off campus, but he also threatened their members with expulsion and even criminal prosecution,” said CAIR Senior Litigation Attorney Justin Sadowsky. “We should all be steadfast in the face of such unconstitutional authoritarianism.”
