(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/7/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of Patrick Crusius, the mass shooter who killed 23 people in a Walmart in El Paso, Texas in 2019, to life in prison by a federal judge.
Crusius was sentenced to 90 consecutive life sentences. Prosecutors had recommended he receive consecutive life sentences for each of the 90 federal charges, including hate crimes and firearms offenses, to which he pleaded guilty.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We welcome the life sentences for the cowardly racist who perpetrated this horrific attack on the Latino community, and we pray that God grants comfort to the loved ones of the victims.”
He noted that immediately following the deadly 2019 attack, CAIR urged members of the Muslim community in Texas and nationwide to donate blood for the wounded.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
