(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/18/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed charges filed against the founder and leader of a neo-Nazi group alleging that he violated New Hampshire’s state civil rights laws when he and others hung a racist banner on a Portsmouth, N.H., overpass last year.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella is seeking a $10,000 fine for Christopher Hood, head of NSC-131 – also known as the Nationalist Social Club – for violating the New Hampshire Civil Rights Act. The complaint against Hood alleges he led members of the hate group in hanging a banner without a permit that read “Keep New England White.” Prosecutors also filed actions against another member of the hate group.

“We welcome legal actions against those who allegedly promote hatred in our society and hope the charges send a message that bigotry will not be tolerated in New Hampshire or nationwide,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
