The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed efforts by Delaware’s Kent County to remove racist restrictions from housing covenants.
Kent County’s Recorder of Deeds is asking for citizens to report any discriminatory or racist language and restrictions in their housing covenants.
“We welcome this effort by the Kent County government to remove the legacy of racial discrimination in housing,” said CAIR National Communications Manager Ismail Allison. “We urge other counties nationwide to follow suit.”
He noted that CAIR has previously supported efforts to remove racist language from housing covenants.
