CAIR Welcomes Federal Court Ruling that Maryland Father Deported in Error Must Be Returned to U.S.

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has applauded a ruling from U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis who granted a preliminary injunction Friday and ordered the Trump administration to return Maryland father Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia home by Monday.

On March 15, Abrego was deported to a Superman facility in El Salvador due to an “administrative error” despite a protection order granted in 2019.

This significant decision recognizes the ongoing challenges faced by immigrants who have sought refuge in the United States due to extenuating circumstances and reinforces the importance of protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring that families are not torn apart by unjust deportation policies.

“We commend the court for its critical decision to uphold justice and reunite this father with his family,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “This ruling underscores the disastrous execution of the Trump administration’s immigration policies that are tearing at the fabric of our nation. Its administrative errors are wreaking havoc and must be halted. The court’s decision reflects a commitment to justice and humanity, acknowledging the rights and dignity of people who have built their lives in the United States in safety and stability.”

CAIR Maryland calls on its members of Congress to act swiftly to protect the rights and dignity of residents in the state, including students, regardless of their immigration status and country of origin.

The civil rights group remains committed to advocating for the rights of all immigrants and ensuring that governmental policies reflect the values of compassion and justice.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
