The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a federal hate crime charge Eugene, Oregon, man who allegedly vandalized a local synagogue several times over a five-month period.
Adam Edward Braun, 34, allegedly defaced Temple Beth Israel on four separate occasions between August 2023 and January 2024. During one incident, he allegedly spray-painted “White Power” on the building’s exterior. During a search of Braun’s home, authorities reportedly found antisemitic writings, KKK inscriptions and neo-Nazi paraphernalia.
“We welcome the hate crime charge brought by federal authorities in this case and hope it sends a message of deterrence to all those who contemplate turning their hate-filled beliefs into violent actions,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “All Americans should feel safe in their houses of worship.”
He added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
