CAIR Welcomes Hate Crime Charges for Reported Assault on Honduran Man in Tennessee

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed hate crime charges against a Roane County, Tennessee, man accused of violently assaulting a Honduran man inside his home.

Prosecutors allege that Roy McGraw broke into the mobile home on a property that he managed and assaulted the homeowner. McGraw reportedly stated that the man did not belong there and ordered him to leave the property before chasing him with a baseball bat and threatening his life. McGraw is currently facing assault and hate crime charges, and prosecutors have filed a motion seeking to revoke his bond.

“We welcome the hate crime charges against the alleged perpetrator of this crime and thank law enforcement authorities for acting swiftly,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “All acts of bigoted violence must be taken seriously and prosecuted.

CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, anti-Muslim hate, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
