Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, and said: “The Singh family stores and employees have been a valuable part of the Dallas community for many years.”
“We welcome the investigation of a possible bias motive for this disturbing incident and thank law enforcement authorities for their swift action in apprehending the suspect,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “In these types of cases, it is only prudent to investigate whether the alleged actions of the suspect were motivated by hate.”
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
