CAIR Welcomes Hate Crime Probe into Arson Targeting Cemetery at Black Church in Maryland

(BALTIMORE, MD, 12/19/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a hate crime investigation into an arson targeting a cemetery operated by a Black church in Anne Arundel County.

Someone set fire to a sign on the cemetery property, causing damage to the sign. The cemetery is operated by the Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Hanover. Police and the fire marshal are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
