The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a resolution by the Iowa City Council calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution, which also affirmed the city’s opposition to antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Arab bigotry, was passed on Tuesday night with a 4-3 vote.

“Americans across our nation are standing up and demanding an end to the slaughter, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “It’s time for President Biden to finally listen to the majority of Americans who desire a permanent ceasefire and a just solution to the conflict.”
There is growing domestic and international outrage over Israel’s mass killing of more than 22,000 people in Gaza – mostly women and children – including hundreds of UN workers, journalists and medical personnel. The daily death toll continues to exceed 100.
