CAIR Welcomes MOU to End War on Iran, Warns Against Continued Israeli Sabotage Through Killing and Ethnic Cleansing in Gaza, Lebanon, West Bank

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed reports that the United States and Iran have reached a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at ending the war on Iran, while warning that Israel will seek to sabotage any diplomatic breakthrough by continuing or even escalating its ongoing genocidal attacks on Gaza, the illegally-occupied West Bank and Lebanon.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“We welcome any diplomatic agreement that ends the threat of war between the United States and Iran and prevents further pointless bloodshed, instability, and suffering throughout the region. Diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for international law must always take precedence over military confrontation.

“At the same time, policymakers and the international community must remain vigilant against efforts by the rogue Israeli government to sabotage prospects for regional peace through continued violence and provocation. The ongoing mass killing, forced displacement, and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza and the illegally-occupied West Bank, as well as repeated attacks in Lebanon and elsewhere, threaten to ignite further conflict and undermine diplomatic progress.

“A durable peace in the Middle East requires more than preventing a war with Iran. It also requires ending Israel’s genocide in Gaza, stopping illegal settlement expansion and ethnic cleansing in the occupied West Bank, respecting the sovereignty of neighboring nations, and ensuring justice, freedom, and human rights for the Palestinian people. In addition, Israel must withdraw from the occupied territories of Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria.”

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
