The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the recognition of the state of Palestine by Norway, Ireland and Spain, and called on the Biden administration to stop blocking that nation’s full United Nations membership.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad, who is himself of Palestinian heritage, said:
“The full entry of the state of Palestine into the community of nations is long overdue and should not be subject to the veto of our government or that of the far-right, openly racist and genocidal Israeli government. All major Israeli leaders have made it very clear that they will never willingly accept a Palestinian state or even recognize Palestinian humanity. It is now time for all nations, including our own, to recognize the state of Palestine.”
CAIR also said that federal laws which would penalize international bodies for recognizing Palestine must be rejected and repealed.
Last month, CAIR condemned the Biden administration’s veto of a U.N. resolution that could have resulted in full United Nations membership for Palestine.
