CAIR Welcomes Resignation of Kentucky Police Officer Over Racist Video

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the resignation of a Kentucky police officer after an internal investigation revealed that he shared racist AI-generated videos, including one depicting George Floyd in a “racially charged scenario.”

Earlier this week, CAIR welcomed the firing of a deputy from Vermont’s Rutland County Sheriff’s Department after racist messages he reportedly sent were discovered.

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“The resignation of this officer is a necessary step toward accountability, but it must not be the final one. Law enforcement agencies across the country must recognize that racist behavior undermines public trust and endangers minority communities. The use of emerging technologies to amplify racism is especially disturbing and demands clear policies, strong oversight and meaningful consequences. We urge all police departments to proactively identify and address bias within their ranks and to recommit themselves to equal justice and respect for all.”

CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
