CAIR Welcomes Senate Watchlist Report, Reiterates Call for FBI to Stop Dissemination of Watchlist

(WASHINGTON, DC – 12/19/23) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s report Mislabeled as a Threat: How the Terrorist Watchlist and Government Screening Processes Impact Americans

“This report is the latest evidence that the FBI’s secret watchlist is ruining the lives of innocent people,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. “We call on the Biden administration to stop the FBI’s dissemination of its watchlist immediately.”

McCaw added, “We are pleased that the committee is listening to CAIR through our reports and our litigation. We hope they will come to understand that the watch listing system is irreparably broken.”

McCaw noted that ending unconstitutional watchlist abuses was among the issues that hundreds of American Muslims participating in the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations’ (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations, 8th annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill addressed directly with legislators and their staff earlier this year.
