CAIR Welcomes South Africa’s Submission to International Court of Justice (ICJ) Detailing Evidence of Israel’s Gaza Genocide

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a detailed submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war on Gaza.

South Africa’s submission to the ICJ includes 750 pages of evidence of acts of genocide and genocidal intent.

Israel has already slaughtered more than 43,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and has destroyed most of the civilian infrastructureforcibly displaced almost all of the civilian population, and imposed forced starvation.

The South African presidency stated in part:

“The Memorial – the name for the document recording the main case of South Africa against Israel – contains evidence which shows how the government of Israel has violated the genocide convention by promoting the destruction of Palestinians living in Gaza, physically killing them with an assortment of destructive weapons, depriving them access to humanitarian assistance, causing conditions of life which are aimed at their physical destruction and ignoring and defying several provisional measures of the International Court of Justice, and using starvation as a weapon of war and to further Israel’s aims to depopulate Gaza through mass death and forced displacement of Palestinians.

“The evidence will show that undergirding Israel’s genocidal acts is the special intent to commit genocide, a failure by Israel to prevent incitement to genocide, to prevent genocide itself and its failure to punish those inciting and committing acts of genocide.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“We welcome South Africa’s Memorial to the International Court of Justice and thank that nation’s leaders for helping expose the far-right Israeli government’s genocide and genocidal intent in Gaza to the world community. This detailed submission also further exposes the Biden administration’s criminal complicity with Israel’s genocide in Gaza. President Biden should end his complicity with genocide by stopping arms deliveries to Israel and forcing an immediate ceasefire.”

Yesterday, CAIR today called on Microsoft to rehire and apologize to two employees who were reportedly fired for organizing a vigil at the company’s headquarters for Palestinians killed in the far-right Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza.

Over the weekend, CAIR demanded that the Biden administration take concrete actions to stop Israeli’s genocide after the United Nation’s top humanitarian aid official said, “the entire population of North Gaza is at risk of dying.”

Last week, CAIR said the Israeli government’s latest slaughter of babies and children in Gaza should “shock the conscience” of Biden administration officials supporting the genocide in Gaza.
