(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/20/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned what it called the “Israeli war crimes of the day” after Israel killed patients in their beds at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.
Indonesia’s Foreign Minister condemned the attack in which at least 12 people were killed. The head of the World Health Organization said he was “appalled” by the Israeli attack.
In another apparent war crime, more than 10 people were killed by an Israeli airstrike on a UN school in the Bureij refugee camp.
“It is sickeningly difficult to keep up with the Israeli war crimes being committed on a daily basis in Gaza,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “We must not become numb to the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing we are witnessing daily in Gaza, and which the Global North pretends does not exist. There must be a ceasefire now.”
He noted that CAIR previously said the “Israeli genocide must be stopped” after an attack on a UN school in Gaza killed least 50 people.
CAIR said the international community must take action as UN agencies report that Palestinians now face starvation, disease, and genocide at the hands of the Israeli government.
Yesterday, CAIR called on President Biden to personally intervene to save the more than 30 premature babies left to die in Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza after a forced evacuation of the facility by Israeli troops. Those babies were ultimately evacuated.
[NOTE: More than 100,000 Americans have used CAIR’s action alert to contact their members of Congress and call for an end to the violence and the renewal of U.S.-led efforts to end the occupation. SEE: Urge Your Members of Congress to Address Root Cause of Mideast Violence]
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
