On Monday, May 12, a representative from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will testify at a San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission hearing addressing growing concerns over the potential return of the discriminatory travel ban that previously targeted Muslim-majority and African nations.
The hearing will feature testimony from community leaders and advocates and will conclude with a Commission vote on a resolution opposing any effort to reinstate such a ban.
WHEN:
Monday, May 12, 2025
5:30 p.m.
WHERE:
San Francisco City Hall, Room 416
1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco
WHO:
- San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commissioners
- CAIR National Board Member Spojmie Nasiri, Esq.
- Local advocates and impacted community members
- Public commenters
WHY:
The threat of a renewed travel ban has sparked fear and concern across Muslim, African, and immigrant communities in the Bay Area. Such a policy would once again threaten to separate families, restrict freedom of movement, and send a dangerous message of exclusion. The hearing will revisit the harm caused by the previous ban, examine the implications of a renewed version, and urge city leaders to take a strong stand in opposition.
CAIR San Francisco Bay Area (CAIR-SFBA) is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
