Somali community leaders, joined by CAIR-Minnesota and allied organizations, plan to hold a press conference today at 3:00 p.m. at Minneapolis City Hall to announce a series of initiatives aimed at supporting and strengthening the Somali American community amid recent attacks and escalating misinformation.

The announcement will include:
-A call for establishing Somali Heritage Month, beginning in Minnesota and advancing toward a national designation.
-New and expanded community safety, wellness, and support efforts for Somali families, youth, and local businesses.
-Coordinated actions from civic, faith, and community partners to counter harmful rhetoric and affirm the dignity and contributions of Somali Minnesotans.
-Additional plans and collaborative initiatives that will be discussed and further developed in the coming days.
The press conference will also provide pathways for organizations, elected officials, and residents to participate in and support these efforts.
