CAIR Honors OIC Head at Capitol Hill Iftar

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 9/21/07) – The Council on American-Islamic (CAIR) was honored to host a Ramadan iftar, or fast-breaking meal, last night at its Capitol Hill headquarters for Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

CAIR presented Secretary General Ihsanoglu with an award in recognition of his leadership in building bridges of understanding between the Islamic world and the West.

Local and national Muslim community leaders, Muslim diplomats, media professionals, congressional staffers, and elected officials also took part in the iftar honoring Ihsanoglu.

CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group, has 33 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
