(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/29/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed solidarity with the people of Turkey following a terror attack in Istanbul that left more than 41 people dead and many more injured.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“Our hearts are broken at the news of yet another terror attack, this time at Istanbul's airport. We stand with Turkey, its people and its leadership during this difficult time.
“Those who murder innocent people anywhere, but specifically in a Muslim country and during the holy month of Ramadan, have no regard for the sanctity of human life or the sanctity of Islam. These murderers do not represent me or my faith, which celebrates life and honors humanity.â€
Awad recommended the use of the hashtag #PrayForIstanbul for other individuals and groups to offer similar statements of solidarity.
American Muslim organizations have consistently and repeatedly condemned terrorism in all its forms.
