(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/18/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on state and federal authorities to investigate alleged threats to the Muslim community in Maine.
Police in Westbrook, Maine, are investigating written threats against Muslims discovered Wednesday at an apartment complex. The threatening notes stated:  “All Muslims are Terrorists should be killed.†The notes were found by Iraqi residents of the complex and by police.

“We ask local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate these threats as a hate crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice,†said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Families that were forced to flee Iraq because of such threats should not be subjected to them in America.â€
Hooper said CAIR has noted a spike in anti-Muslim discrimination and hate crimes in recent months, which the civil rights groups attributes at least in part to Islamophobic rhetoric used by public figures like Donald Trump.
