(BALTIMORE, MD, 4/3/21) – On Wednesday, April 7 and Saturday, April 10, the Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will host two virtual bystander intervention trainings in solidarity with Asian-American Pacific Islander communities targeted by hate.

“Witnesses and bystanders often want to step in and support people targeted by hate and bias, but they simply don’t know how,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “The objective of these trainings, in light of the recent uptick in anti-Asian incidents, is to teach situational awareness and empower participants to safely intervene in case they find themselves in such a scenario.”
Maryland has seen a string of anti-Asian crimes in the last few weeks, including several Asian-owned businesses that were burglarized recently.
