The confederate flag inside the van was first sighted by a parent, who reported it – along with the two employees allegedly responsible for the display – to EGUSD officials.
Investigators found and removed the flag and placed the employees on administrative leave, according to EGUSD.
In a statement, CAIR-SV/CC Deputy Director Sukaina Hussain said:
“We commend the parent who reported this display. School environments should be safe spaces for all, but displaying a flag that symbolizes oppression for so many undermines that notion. We must ensure that bigotry, racism and hatred are not tolerated in our schools or communities. We must stand together to call out and condemn intolerance in all forms and hold our officials accountable.”
Hussain urged community members to report any bias incidents to law enforcement and to contact CAIR-SV/CC’s Civil Rights Department at 916-441-6269 or by filing a report at bit.ly/cairsvcccivilrights.
