(WASHINGTON, D.C, 6/15/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, welcomed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of an appeal by a group of Republican-led states that were seeking to challenge the way President Joe Biden ended the Trump administration’s “public charge” policy intended to curb legal immigration.
That policy was designed to make it harder for low-income immigrants to qualify for green cards or temporary visas. The court based its decision on a procedural issue, not the merits of the immigration rule.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s ruling in this case, given that the Trump-era ‘public charge’ rule was clearly designed to target the most vulnerable people seeking a new life in our nation.”
In February 2021, CAIR welcomed President Biden’s executive order to rescind the prior administration’s order.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
