BREAKING: CAIR-MN Calls on Minneapolis City Council Member to Apologize for Islamophobic, Anti-Black Comments

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 7/8/22) – Tonight, the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota) called on Minneapolis City Council Member Michael Rainville to apologize for Islamophobic and anti-black comments today at city council community meeting in Minneapolis, Minn.

In a statement, CAIR-Minnesota’s Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said: 

“We demand a public apology from Council Member Rainville for scapegoating the Muslim community and using Islamophobic, anti-Black tropes. His comments falsely targeting the Muslim and Somali community were offensive and wrong. He should meet with Muslim and Somali community leaders to gain an understanding of the community and of why what he said was so offensive.”
