(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/8/22) – Today is the nationwide midterm election and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is urging all American Muslims to check their voter registration status and make a plan to vote before the polls close.

In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:
“We encourage every American Muslim voter who has not already cast their ballot to go out to the polls today and make history for our nation and community. Regardless of which political party or candidates emerge victorious today, American Muslims heading to the polls increases our community’s ability to have our voice heard and opinions counted. Every election is important and every vote counts. So please, make sure your voice is heard and go vote.”

During tonight and tomorrow, CAIR will conduct an exit poll of Muslim voters to determine which presidential candidate Muslim voters supported and by what margin. The poll will be posted on Thursday, November 10, at CAIR.com and Muslims.Vote.
Yesterday, CAIR sponsored a robocall broadcast before the election, targeting more than 500,000 Muslim voters in households with landlines and worked with its national network of state chapters to host texting banks reaching out to its database of 575,000 registered Muslim voters’ personal cellphones.

CAIR’s congressional scorecard reflects the voting performance of all the elected representatives and senators in U.S. Congress that are up for re-election in the 2022 midterm election. It tracks congressional votes and co-sponsorship of key bills including the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, Combating International Islamophobia Act, Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act, the anti-Muslim Ban National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants Act (NO BAN Act), the Access to Counsel Act, Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, Repeal of 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Iraq, the End Racial and Religious Profiling Act (ERRPA), and more.
CAIR’s 2022 Sample Questions for Candidates and Government Officials Toolkit, which encourages Muslim voters to ask candidates questions running for office about issues like religious freedom, civil rights, fighting discrimination, the right to boycott, and more.
CAIR’s Muslims.Vote website is part of CAIR’s annual non-partisan “Muslims Vote” campaign designed to empower American Muslims by increasing their political capacity and presence in the 2020 General Election.
CAIR estimates there are well over 1.2 million registered American Muslim voters in the United States, with large communities residing in key swing states. A recent CAIR survey indicates that 91.2 percent of registered Muslim voters intend to vote in the November 8th General Election.
