CAIR-MI Condemns Distribution of Antisemitic Flyers in Kent County Neighborhoods

(CANTON, MI, 03/08/2023) – The Michigan chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), a local branch of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in two neighborhoods in Kent County, Mich.

An individual reportedly drove to two separate residential neighborhoods in Kent County two hours away from his home to distribute flyers blaming members of the Jewish faith for global events including the creation of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

This recent hate incident against members of the Jewish faith comes directly on the heels of attacks and threats on the lives of Jewish lawmakers, including Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

CAIR-MI Welcomes Arrest of Man Targeting Jewish State Officials

“CAIR-MI continues to fight antisemitic sentiment alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters in faith,” said CAIR-MI Director of Safe Spaces Nour Ali. “The flyers distributed in Kent County play into completely false stereotypes that generalize an entire faith and its adherents — something Muslims experience as well.”

“We condemn this and every attack on individuals of faith with vast and widely debunked conspiracy theories,” said CAIR-MI Staff Attorney Amy V. Doukoure. “Families should not wake up to have the sanctity of the community disturbed by the distribution of hateful and bigoted rhetoric and conspiracy theories targeting a religious group.”

CAIR-MI stands in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
