CAIR-Georgia, Georgia Muslim Voter Project (GAMVP) and IMAN-Atlanta to Co-Host Muslim Advocacy Day at the Georgia Capitol

(ATLANTA, GA, 03/15/2023) – On March 16, The Georgia Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA), Georgia Muslim Voter Project (GAMVP) and Inner-City Muslim Action Network-Atlanta (IMAN Atlanta) plan to host an Advocacy Day for Georgia Muslims at the Georgia State Capitol.

What: Georgia Muslim Advocacy Day 2023 

When: Thursday, March 16, from 11am to 2pm 

Where:  Central Presbyterian Church,  201 Washington St SW, Atlanta, GA 30303

This event aims to bring together Muslim community leaders and advocates to address key issues affecting Muslims in Georgia. Attendees will participate in a lobbying workshop led by CAIR-Georgia and discussions on topics such as voting rights, immigration, and social justice. After the workshop, participants will have the tools to speak with elected officials. 

In addition to the workshops, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Senator Sheikh Rahman, Senator Nabilah Islam, Representative Ruwa Romman, Representative Farooq Mughal, and Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman. 

CAIR-Georgia Executive Director Murtaza Khwaja said in a statement:  

“We are excited to show the state legislature the rich diversity of the Georgia Muslim community. While the Muslim community is far from a monolith, legislators will hear directly from Georgia Muslims on the issues that are most important to them – from restorative justice,to immigrant rights, to first amendment protections for all.” 

Shafina Khabani, Executive Director of GAMVP stated: 

“Georgia Muslim Advocacy Day provides a platform for Muslim Americans to address pressing issues with policymakers. By advocating for our rights and promoting inclusivity, we demonstrate our commitment to a better future for all Americans, regardless of faith or background.”
