CAIR-Missouri Urges School Board to Keep Resolution Against Racism

(ST. LOUIS, MO, 7/20/2023) – The Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Francis Howell School Board in O’Fallon, Mo., to vote this evening to keep a resolution against racism passed three years ago during nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.

A conservative majority on the board is seeking to cancel the resolution, which is currently displayed in school buildings, which calls racism “a crisis that negatively impacts our students, our families, our community, and our staff.” The board of education meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.

In a statement, CAIR-Missouri Board Chair Yasir Ali said:

“Rescinding this anti-racism resolution would undermine the crucial effort to address systemic racism and promote inclusivity in our educational institutions. It would also send the troubling message to students, staff and the broader community that the fight against racial injustice is no longer a priority. We urge the Francis Howell School Board to keep this resolution in place.”

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
