(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/19/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed its support for efforts to remove a Confederate monument in Jessamine County, Ky.
Efforts to remove a Confederate statue at the courthouse in Jessamine County have been renewed and are being led by several local faith leaders. There is currently no indication that the county’s fiscal court will take a vote on removing the monument or if the matter may be put to a ballot.

“Monuments to racist traitors do not belong near institutions that are supposed to administer equal justice,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We stand in support of local faith leaders’ efforts to remove this statue.”
He said Washington, D.C., based CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate names, holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.
